About the Foundation

The Chartrand Foundation was established by the Chartrand family in 2006.

It reflects our desire to give back, our belief in the dignity of all people and our commitment to social justice. Working together philanthropically also serves to strengthen and enhance our family relationships.

The Chartrand Foundation focuses on education because we believe accessing and acquiring a quality education is the most important step individuals can take toward achieving self-expression, personal freedom and financial independence.

mission

To improve educational opportunities for children in Duval County, through strategic investments that encourage and support early learning and strengthen the public education system.

vision

All children have the opportunity to achieve their potential and be productive citizens.

Role as a Funder

As a private donor we determine our fields of interest, serving as a source of innovation and support for those visions and initiatives that most closely align with our values.  As a venture philanthropy foundation, it is our responsibility to serve as a catalyst, to help fund or accept risks when government or non-profits cannot.  Affording organizations opportunities to take risks enables them to realize their mission.  Additionally, a venture philanthropy foundation is uniquely positioned to build awareness of our community’s challenges and help to galvanize public will for finding, and funding, solutions.  In these capacities, we collaborate with non-profit agencies, government institutions, and other philanthropic organizations to help co-create systemic change.  Going forward, the Foundation anticipates an increasing focus on investments in early childhood education and continuing support of initiatives that address public education with a particular interest in initiatives that will lead to changes in public policy or its implementation.
